Western Union Global Refer a Friend Program Terms and Conditions Version 1.0 – Effective from January 1st, 2026.

  1. Overview

The following terms and conditions are (the “Agreement“) between the applicable Western Union entity as defined in Section 13 (“Western Union,” “we,” or “us”), and you (“you“, “your“), the participant in the Western Union Referral Program (the “Referral Program” or “Program”). Participation in the Referral Program is subject to the terms of this Agreement, Western Union’s User Agreement, Privacy Notice, and any other agreements we have in place with you. If you do not agree to the terms and conditions contained within this Agreement in their entirety, you are not authorized to participate in the Referral Program.

You must be an existing registered customer of Western Union to participate. Through the Referral process, you have the opportunity to earn rewards by inviting friends or family members (each, an “Invitee”) to register for a Western Union account and complete Qualifying Actions. Each promotional campaign will have specific material terms detailed separately in the associated promotional materials (“Promotion Details”) outlined in Section 3.

  1. Requirements for Valid Referrals:

Depending on the specific campaign, you may receive a promotional reward (“Reward”). You will earn a Reward only when you and your Invitees meet below requirements:

  • Your Invitee is a new customer to the applicable Western Union service. See definition of a “new” customer in section 13.
  • Your Invitee accesses the Western Union service directly from your referral method (e.g., clicking on your unique link) and successfully signs up with Western Union through that link.
  • Your Invitee successfully sends their first transfer with Western Union to a person other than you in a manner that is compliant with our User Agreement and/or any other qualifying activities specified via our services and Promotion Details (a “Qualified Action”); and
  • Your Invitee’s Qualified Action is fully completed and not cancelled (either by Invitee or by Western Union).
  • You are not subject to any additional program requirements, restrictions, or limits on your ability to claim a reward which we may add from time to time and which we will provide you with notice of via this Agreement or via our service.
  1. Promotion Details

Western Union shall communicate the specific details of each promotion (“Promotion Details”) through various channels, including but not limited to emails, push notifications, in-app messages, website announcements, social media, etc. Each set of Promotion Details shall include:

  • Promotion Periods – The start and end dates during which referrals are eligible for rewards.
  • Reward Structure – The reward(s) provided will be determined by the specific promotion in effect. The type, value, and conditions of the reward will be outlined in the Promotion Details. Rewards may be issued to both you and your Invitee(-s) or exclusively only to you, as specified in each Promotion Details.
  • Qualifying Actions – The required action(-s) an Invitee must complete to qualify, which could include making a qualifying transaction or other qualifying activities, such as using specific Western Union products (e.g., international money transfers).
  • Eligibility Criteria – Any country restrictions, transfer routes, or currency limitations that apply.
  • Referral Limits – The maximum number of Invitees you can refer within the promotion period.
  • Exclusions – Any transactions, users, or circumstances that do not qualify for the promotion.
  • Reward Fulfillment – The method and timeline for reward distribution (e.g., account credits, third-party vouchers, prepaid cards).
  • Additional Terms – Any other material conditions, restrictions, or limitations that apply.
  1. Referral Process
  • You can invite up to a specified number of Invitees per promotional period, as detailed in the Promotion Details.
  • Invitations must be sent using the unique referral link provided by Western Union (“Referral Links”).
  • Invitees must register using your unique referral link to ensure eligibility for rewards for either or both parties, as applicable.
  • Western Union does not send Referral Links. You must copy the Referral Link and are free to choose how you send the link provided to the Invitees (e.g., via email, social media, etc.) in accordance with these Terms and Conditions.
  • The Referral Link will expire at the end of each Promotional Period.
  1. Rewards
  • You will receive a reward, as detailed in the Promotion Details, for every Invitee who successfully completes a Qualified Action. Please note that there may be limits on the number of rewards that can be earned, and any such restrictions will be clearly outlined in the promotional details.
  • Depending on the specific promotion, Invitees may be eligible to receive a reward upon completing a Qualified Action, as detailed in the Promotion Details. However, some promotions might not offer any rewards to Invitees. Please refer to the Promotional Details for full information on any exclusions or restrictions.
  • Rewards will be distributed in the form specified in the Promotion Details, including but not limited to, prepaid cards, promo codes, credits, vouchers, third-party gift cards, etc.
  • The redemption of the Reward may be governed by third-party terms and conditions (e.g. third-party gift cards). Western Union is not liable for the provision of services by third-party providers.
  • Western Union can change the Reward at any time. The amount of the Reward you will be entitled to will be the amount that applies at the time you meet all requirements of the Program.
  • To prevent fraud or abuse, Western Union may also apply additional requirements, limits, or restrictions on your ability to claim a Reward.
  1. Modification, Termination and Cancellation

Western Union reserves the right to suspend, terminate, or modify the Referral Program or any promotional campaign at any time without prior notice. This right includes making changes to eligibility criteria, reward structures, participation requirements, program duration, or any other aspect of the promotional campaign as outlined in the Promotional Details. In addition, Western Union may update, revise, or amend these Terms and Conditions at any time, and such revisions will become effective immediately upon their posting on the official Western Union website at www.westernunion.com. You are responsible for regularly reviewing the Terms and Conditions to stay informed of any changes. Continued participation in the program will be deemed as acceptance of the updated terms, and Western Union shall not be liable for any loss or inconvenience resulting from these changes, suspensions, or terminations.

In the event of termination, any pending rewards may be forfeited at Western Union’s discretion and unique referral links might be terminated.

Following any change or amendment to these Terms and Conditions, your continued use of the Program constitutes your acceptance of the changed or amended Terms and Conditions, and the Program as is in force at that time.

  1. Fraud Prevention
  • Western Union strictly prohibits any fraudulent activity, including but not limited to creating multiple accounts, providing false information, or any actions intended to game the referral system.
  • Suspected fraudulent activity may result in disqualification from the program and forfeiture of any rewards.
  • If Western Union (in its sole and absolute discretion) suspects or determines that a breach of these Terms and Conditions has occurred, Western Union may take any action it deems appropriate, including (but not limited to) terminating Referral Link(s), closing your profile, closing profile(s) belonging to third parties, terminating or invalidating Rewards, or suspending or terminating the Program in whole or in part.

Western Union’s failure to exercise or enforce any right or provision of these Terms and Conditions shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision.

  1. Program Restrictions
  • Rewards have no monetary value and may not be redeemed for cash. Rewards are not transferable and may not be auctioned, traded, bartered, or sold. Upon termination of the  Program or any portion thereof for any reason, or upon cancellation of your westernunion.com profile for any reason, any unredeemed Rewards are forfeited.
  • Rewards are subject to verification. Western Union may delay a Reward for the purposes of investigation or for any other reason that, in its sole and absolute discretion, it deems appropriate.
  • Western Union may prohibit you from participating in the Program or may refuse to provide you with a Reward if, in its sole and absolute discretion, Western Union suspects or determines that you have not used the Program in good faith, have breached these Terms and Conditions, have violated applicable law, or that your use presents potential liability or threat to Western Union, its subsidiaries, affiliates, service providers or any of their respective officers, directors, employees, representatives and agents.
  1. Prohibited Uses

You may only use the Program in good faith and in compliance with applicable laws. The following actions are prohibited, and you agree not to engage in any of the following:

  • Creating multiple, duplicate, or fake profiles at www.westernunion.com in order to invite yourself.
  • Inviting others who have created multiple, duplicate, or fake profiles.
  • Using alternative contact information to send Referral Links to yourself or others.
  • Inviting people that you do not know personally, if Western Union (in its sole and absolute discretion) believes that you are doing so in a way that constitutes spam or unsolicited or otherwise undesirous communications.
  • Inviting fictitious or fake individuals.
  • Impersonating any person or otherwise misrepresent any person’s identity.
  • Making transfers or payments to another user that are not genuine payments or transfers.
  • Inviting individuals under the age of eighteen (18) to participate in, or attempting to participate in the Program while being under the age of eighteen (18).
  • Transmitting any unsolicited or unauthorized advertising or promotional material or any other form of similar solicitation (e.g. “spamming”).
  • Interfering with or disrupting any servers, networks, or systems connected to the Program.
  • Doing anything that harms or damages the brand, goodwill, or reputation of Western Union or any service providers that assist Western Union with providing the Program.
  • Using any automated system, script, or macro to participate in the Program.
  • Reselling, bartering, trading, auctioning or otherwise generating income by providing access to the Program to others.
  • Stalking, harassing, or harming any other individual.
  • Using the Program in any way that Western Union (in its sole and absolute discretion) considers to be unreasonable, excessive, or in bad faith.
  • Using the Program in any way that breaches any applicable local, national, or international law or regulation, or that is in any way unlawful, fraudulent, wrongful, or has any unlawful, fraudulent, or wrongful purpose or effect.
  • You represent and guarantee that neither you, nor any person acting on your behalf or with your authorization, will use or permit the Program to be used in a prohibited manner.

Western Union may refuse to provide you with any Reward if it suspects or determines you have engaged in prohibited uses.

  1. No Spam Policy
  • You must not engage in any form of unsolicited communication or “spamming” to promote referrals.
  • When you copy a Referral Link and send it to your Invitee, you represent and warrant to us that you have obtained that person’s express consent to send them electronic communication(s) containing the Referral Link.
  • Bulk email distribution of Referral Link(s) to persons you do not know, sharing Referral Link(s) on websites, sharing Referral Link(s) on social media with recipient(s) you do not know, or any other sharing or promotion of a Referral Link in a manner that (in Western Union’s sole and absolute discretion) may constitute or appear to constitute unsolicited commercial communications or “spam” is prohibited. Western Union reserves the right to terminate your profile, deactivate any relevant Referral Link(s), and to require the you to stop sharing the Referral Link(s) in any manner permitted by applicable law.
  1. Limitation of Liability

WESTERN UNION SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY USE OF THIS PROGRAM THAT DOES NOT COMPLY WITH THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS.  WESTERN UNION SHALL NOT BE LIABLE IF THIS PROGRAM IS INTERFERED WITH IN ANY WAY OR IS NOT CAPABLE OF BEING CONDUCTED AS REASONABLY ANTICIPATED DUE TO ANY REASON BEYOND THE REASONABLE CONTROL OF THE WESTERN UNION, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES OR FAILURES, UNAUTHORIZED INTERVENTION OR FRAUD, VANDALISM, POWER FAILURE, NATURAL DISASTERS, ACTS OF GOD, CIVIL UNREST, STRIKES, INFECTION BY COMPUTER VIRUS, BUGS, TAMPERING, UNAUTHORIZED INTERVENTION, FRAUD, OR ANY OTHER CAUSES BEYOND THE CONTROL OF WESTERN UNION, WHICH CORRUPT OR AFFECT THE ADMINISTRATION, SECURITY, FAIRNESS OR INTEGRITY OR PROPER CONDUCT OF THIS PROGRAM.

WESTERN UNION WILL IN NO CASE BE LIABLE TO YOU FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES, INCLUDING (BUT NOT LIMITED TO) DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF PROFITS, GOODWILL, USE, DATA, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE OR NON-MATERIAL LOSSES.

 

THE FORESEEABLE LOSS OR DAMAGE THAT COULD BE CAUSED BY US IS EQUIVALENT TO THE THEN-CURRENT MONETARY VALUE OF ONE (1) REWARD. YOU RECOGNIZE AND ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THIS LIMITATION OF LOSS OR DAMAGES IS FAIR AND REASONABLE.

  1. Severability

If any provision of these Terms and Conditions is found by a court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, you and Western Union agree that the court should endeavor to give effect intent reflected in the provision, and that the other provisions of these Terms and Conditions remain in full force and effect.

  1. Country Specific Provisions

In the event there is any inconsistency between the English version of this Agreement and the translated text, the English text shall be binding.

The Referral Program is provided and operated by the applicable Western Union entity as specified in the table below, based on your country of residence. The governing law, jurisdiction, and certain definitions or sections of the program terms may differ by country as outlined below. Any disputes arising from or in connection with this Referral Program shall be subject to the applicable laws and the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in the relevant country.

Program Limits:
 
Participants who had fully used their available referral allocations under the prior Refer a Friend program as of January 1, 2026, are not eligible to receive or earn any referral allocations under this Program. Participants who had used only a portion of their prior referral allocations may use only their remaining unused allocation, in accordance with the current Program terms.

 

  1. Data Protection

To participate in the Program, you must provide personal information about yourself; otherwise, Western Union is not able to provide you with any Rewards to which you may become entitled. Your personal information will be processed in accordance with the Western Union Global Privacy Statement, which is available at https://www.westernunion.com/global/en/privacy-statement.html.
