Western Union makes it easy to send money to a bank account in the way that works best for you and your receiver. You can send money to a bank account online, with the app, or at a Western Union agent location.

How do I send money with the Western Union® app?

1. Download our app
Download the Western Union® app on the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

2. Log in or register
Follow the steps in the app to create a profile with your email address. You can verify your profile using your Australian driver’s license, passport, or Proof of Age card.

3. Start your transfer
Enter the destination country and the amount you’d like to send. Choose the payout method: cash, direct to bank account, or mobile wallet based on your receiver’s country. Enter your receiver’s details.

4. Pay and send
Pay for your transfer via debit or credit card, or bank transfer (POLi). Check all the details before hitting send. You’ll get a confirmation email with the Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN). Use it to track your transfer and only share with.

How do I send money in person?

1. Visit a Western Union agent location
With over 3,400 locations2 in Australia, you can quickly locate your nearest location using our app.

2. Share your details
Provide the agent with your full name and a valid government-issued ID.

3. Share your receiver’s details
Provide the agent with your receiver’s first name and surname, the destination country, and the exact amount you wish to send. Choose the payout method: cash, direct to bank or mobile wallet based on your receiver’s country.

4. Pay and send
Pay for your transfer via cash, debit or credit card. You’ll get a confirmation email with the Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN). Use it to track your transfer and only share with your receiver.

How do I start a transfer online and pay in cash at an agent location?

1. Log in or register
Log in to your profile online or through our app. Not registered? It’s easy to create a profile.

2. Start your transfer
Enter the destination country and the amount you’d like to send. Select Pay in Store as the funding method.

3. Enter your receiver’s details
You can save your receiver’s details for convenient repeat transfers.

4. Pay in store
Visit a participating Western Union agent location and show a government-issued ID to verify your profile. Pay for the transfer in cash. You’ll get a confirmation email with the Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN). Use it to track your transfer and only share with your receiver.

How much money can I send online?

When you pay with POLi, your maximum daily transaction is:

• 50,000 AUD to bank accounts
• 5,000 AUD for cash pickup

However, your specific daily transaction limit will vary based on your transaction history. Please register and visit your profile to see your individual transaction limit.

How much money can I send from an agent location in Australia?

You can send as much money as you’d like at an agent location, although certain security and compliance requirements must be met for amounts higher than 7,500 AUD.

What is an acceptable ID to use when sending money at an agent location in Australia?

For your protection and to meet regulatory requirements, you must be over 18 and have an accepted form of government-issued photo ID to send money at an agent location in Australia. Acceptable forms of ID include:

• All passports (Australian and overseas)
• Australian-issued driver’s license
• Australian-issued 18+ proof of age cards; and/or Photo Card

In which countries can I send money directly to my receiver’s bank account?

Check our Direct to Bank Account country information to see which countries the service is available to. You’ll see the bank information you’ll need and how long it will take for the money to be deposited into your receiver’s bank account in each country.

How long will it take before the receiver can collect the money after I send it?

Once you’ve completed the transaction online and received your receipt with a tracking number (MTCN), your receiver will be able to collect the money within minutes1 from participating agent locations around the world.

The time for a transfer to be deposited into an overseas bank account will vary. An estimated time will be advised with your MTCN.

During what hours is the service available in Australia?

You can send money from Australia online and with our app 24/7.

For money transfers at the counter, you will need to check the agent location operating hours as these will vary. You can do this through the agent locator.

What should I do if I forgot my password?

1. Go to the Log In page and select “Forgot Password.”

2. Enter the email address for your Western Union profile to get a password reset email sent to you.

3. Check your email from Western Union containing the link to reset your password. Note: If you can’t see the email, check your junk or spam folder.

4. Follow the instructions in the email.
