* Funds availability is subject to the terms and conditions of the service. Funds may be delayed or services unavailable based on certain transaction conditions, including amount sent, destination country, currency availability, regulatory and foreign exchange issues, required receiver action(s), identification requirements, agent location hours, differences in time zones, or selection of delayed options.

What do I need to send a money transfer online in Australia?

You’ll need your receiver’s full name (as it appears on their ID) and address, and your internet banking details or a Visa® or MasterCard® credit, debit or prepaid card issued by an Australian bank. You also must be over 18.

When you first register online with Western Union, we’ll need certain information so we can confirm your identity and create an online profile for you. You’ll need an Australian drivers license or passport.

In some cases, you may also be required to call our call center if we need additional information. We’ll let you know.

How long will it take before the receiver can collect the money after I send it?

Once you’ve completed the transaction online and received your receipt with a tracking number (MTCN), your receiver will be able to collect the money within minutes* from participating agent locations around the world.

* Funds availability is subject to the terms and conditions of the service. How do I pay for an online money transfer?

You can pay directly from your bank account via internet banking (pay with POLi) or we also accept Visa® or MasterCard® credit, debit, and prepaid cards issued by an Australian bank in your name, or via Apple Pay®. A corporate credit card in a company name can’t be used to pay for an online money transfer in Australia.

What is POLi and how does it work?

POLi is an online payment method which enables you to pay via internet banking.

POLi will establish a secure connection to your online bank, where you pay with your regular online banking information. It’s free and registration isn’t necessary. Please have your online banking details at hand. Your payment will be confirmed immediately.

Will I be charged a cash advance fee when using this service?

If you use your credit card, you may be charged an additional cash advance fee by your card issuer for this service. You may be able to avoid these fees if you use a debit or prepaid card. Contact your issuing bank for any questions related to cash advance fees.

What are Verified by Visa® and MasterCard SecureCode®?

Verified by Visa® and MasterCard SecureCode® were developed to help prevent unauthorized use of cards online. These services use personal passwords or identity information to help protect cards against unauthorized use. They’re available for most cards from participating financial institutions.

Once your card is activated, your card number will be recognized whenever it’s used at participating online merchants. When you process a money transfer online with Western Union, you may be prompted for your Verified by Visa® or MasterCard SecureCode® password to complete the transaction.

You can still use your card on our site if you haven’t activated Verified by Visa® or MasterCard SecureCode®.

Why was my card debited even though I wasn’t able to complete an online money transfer?

Depending on the reason why the transfer couldn’t be completed, your card issuer may have already placed a pre-authorization on your card for the full amount.

The funds are being held by your card issuer, not by Western Union. The card issuer will automatically release these funds, but it may take up to a couple of days.

Can I cancel my online money transfer?

You may be able to cancel it if the money hasn’t yet been picked up by the receiver. Please contact us for more information.

Can I get a refund if I cancel my online money transfer?

It depends on the circumstances specific to your transaction. Please contact us for more information.

If you do receive a refund, the funds will be credited back to the card you used. Depending on the issuing bank, it may take 7-14 days for the funds to appear on the card.

How many Alipay wallet transfers can I make in a month?

You can make up to 5 transfers to the same receiver on Alipay wallet within a 30-day period starting from the date of the first transfer. If it’s urgent, you can always choose a different payout method such as bank account or cash.
