How to Transfer Money

When you need to send money fast, count on our In Minutes*1 service. Send money in person, via Seven Bank ATMs/Online/Mobile or via FamiPort at FamilyMart and money is generally available to your receiver within minutes*1.

SEND MONEY IN PERSON

Convenient. Just go to your nearest Western Union® Agent location in Japan, fill out a money transfer application and show your identification and the rest will be taken care of. Money is available for collection in the destination country in minutes*1 after it is sent. With more than 500,000 Agent locations around the world*2, we are probably right around the corner in your neighborhood.


(1) COMPLETE THE APPLICATION FORM

Fill out the form provided and show your identification document as required*3 to the Agent.

(2) PAY FOR YOUR MONEY TRANSFER

Give the Agent the amount of money that you want to send or entrust together with the necessary service fees*4.


(3) RECEIVE YOUR RECEIPT

You will receive the customer's copy and a print-out of the transaction details. One of the details in the customer's copy is the transaction number (MTCN). You can track the status of your money transfer online with your MTCN.


(4) INFORM YOUR RECEIVER

It is time to contact the intended receiver of your money, and relay the necessary information to him/her such as the sender's name, amount sent, the number of your transaction (MTCN), and the country the money was sent from. Do not disclose transaction details, including the MTCN, to anyone else other than your intended receiver.


(5) TRACK YOUR MONEY

Go to the 'Money Transfer Tracking' link that's on the homepage of our website. You can then track the status of your money by typing in your name (the sender's name) and the number of transaction (MTCN).

SEND MONEY VIA SEVEN BANK ATMs / ONLINE / MOBILE

1.To use the Seven Bank international money transfer service, you need to open a Seven Bank account and apply for the international money transfer service.

2. The service provides only money transfers from Japan to overseas and does not provide transfers from overseas to Japan.

You will be requested to register information necessary for individual money transfers, except amounts of money to be sent and other information, in advance when you apply for an international money transfer service. You will then be able to transfer money easily after the completion of the application procedure through the Internet banking*1, Mobile banking*1, and Seven Bank ATMs nearby.


(1) OPEN A SEVEN BANK ACCOUNT AND APPLY FOR THE INTERNATIONAL MONEY TRANSFER SERVICE

To use the Seven Bank international money transfer service, you will need to open a Seven Bank account and to apply for an international money transfer service. Please request an application form online through SevenBank's website.*2


(2) DEPOSIT FUNDS IN YOUR SEVEN BANK ACCOUNT

The funds and Send Fee will be transferred from your Seven Bank account when you request a money transfer.*3 You need to deposit the necessary amount of money into your Seven Bank account*4.


(3) REQUEST MONEY TRANSFER THROUGH INTERNET BANKING/MOBILE BANKING OR A SEVEN BANK ATM

Please request money transfer through Internet/Mobile banking*1 or a Seven Bank ATM. Choose a receiver from a list of pre-registered receivers, specify an amount of money to transfer in yen, and follow instruction on the screen.*5


(4) COMPLETION OF REQUEST FOR MONEY TRANSFER

The receiver needs to have certain information, including the MTCN (Money Transfer Control Number)*6 to receive the funds. Please give the receiver the necessary transaction information, including the MTCN*6 shown on the screen and the receipt after your application for money transfer has been accepted. Please do not disclose the transaction details, including the MTCN, to anyone else.

*1 You should register in advance to use Internet banking/Mobile banking.

*2 The application procedure cannot be completed online. You need to complete and return the application form that will be sent to you. You also need to complete the prescribed procedures to open an account, including changing a tentative personal identification number that will be sent to you to a fixed personal identification number. For details, please click here. Seven Bank will screen applicants and may refuse to accept applications after screening. Seven Bank will not answer inquiries about the details of screening.

*3 When you transfer money through a Seven Bank ATM, there will be a charge for using the ATM (withdrawing money) depending on the time of day. The charge will be deducted from your Seven Bank account (ordinary account) when you apply for money transfer.

*4 You cannot directly transfer cash through a Seven Bank ATM without depositing money into your Seven Bank account (ordinary account).

*5 When requesting a money transfer, you should specify a receiver, a country, and a currency for the receiver when you register a receiver.

*6 When money is transferred to certain countries such as countries in Africa, the receiver is required to answer a test question and provide the MTCN for identification when he or she receives money. When accepting a money transfer, Seven Bank will issue a Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN) and, a test question and the answer will be shown on the transaction screen or the receipt (if needed) . Inform the sender of your name, approximate amount sent, MTCN, test question and answer if necessary, and country where the money was sent from. Do not disclose your transaction details, including MTCN, to anyone other than your receiver. Seven Bank will not be liable for any losses caused by a third party who is not the customer or receiver using the information.

You can apply for an international money transfer service at a manned store of Seven Bank but cannot transfer money from there.

◇The Seven Bank international money transfer service will be offered by Seven Bank and will not be provided by Western Union on its own. Western Union will support Seven Bank as a business associates in withdrawals at receiving locations. Neither Western Union nor receiving l locations will be a party to the transactions.

◇In principle, the services and transactions of Seven Bank will be described in Japanese. For the convenience of customers, other languages are also used. However, the use of other languages will be limited, and if there is any difference between the meanings of Japanese and other languages, the Japanese meaning will take precedence.

*1 When you transfer money through a Seven Bank ATM, there will be a charge for using the ATM (withdrawing money) depending on the time of day. The charge will be deducted from your Seven Bank account when the money transfer is accepted. There may be additional charges for separate transactions between the receiver and the receiving location. The receiver will be responsible for the separate transactions, and Seven Bank will not assume any responsibility or pay any charges irrespective of the reason.

*2 In principle, the receiver will receive the foreign currency specified by the customer that will be converted from yen received when the money transfer is accepted at an exchange rate determined by Seven Bank. The exchange rate will include a margin set by Seven Bank.And, in addition to the Send charge, profits relating to the currency conversion will be partially distributed to Western Union.

You can apply for an international money transfer service agreement at a manned store of Seven Bank but cannot transfer money from there.

 

SEND MONEY VIA FAMIPORT AT FAMILYMART

Western Union® Money TransferSM services are available at approximately 11,400 FamilyMarts*.

1. To use international money transfer service via Famiport at FamilyMart, you need to register with FamilyMart to and obtain your ID and PASSWORD.

2. The service provides only money transfers from Japan to overseas and does not provide transfers from overseas to Japan.


(1) REGISTER

Send a completed User Registration Form and identification documents by post to register with FamilyMart to and receivers. To obtain a pre-registration application form, you can either download a form or make your request via standard mail. You can also call DSK International Money Transfer Support Center to request a Pre-Registration Form. (0120-3630-44 Toll Free*2 9:00-22:00 Everyday)


(2) GET YOUR REGISTRATION CARD

Receive your registration card for Western Union International Money Transfer Service via FamilyMart with your ID printed on it. It will take 7-10 days for your registration card to arrive.


(3) REQUEST FOR MONEY TRANSFER

Any of the procedures below can be used to request for money.

(4) CALL THE RECEIVER TO INFORM OF THE MTCN (Money Transfer Control Number)

Call the receiver and inform them of the transaction information required to collect the money. Do not disclose transaction details, including the MTCN, to anyone else other than the named receiver.


(5) RECEIVE THE MONEY

Within minutes*1, the money you sent will be available for collection by the named receiver at any Western Union® Agent location in the destination country.
