    How much money can I send to Canada?

    Money transfers to Canada are capped at €50,000 if you choose to carry out the transaction by bank transfer. With payment by credit2/debit card, you can send up to €5000 to a bank account. Finally, please note that if your receiver wants to pick up the money in cash, the amount of the transfer made online or at an agent location must not exceed €5000.

    How do I send money online to Canada?
    1. Create a profile or log in to your Western Union account and click “Continue.”
    2. Select “Canada” in the “Send to” box and enter the amount you would like to send in the relevant box.
    3. Once you’ve entered the desired amount, you’ll be asked to choose how the receiver will get the money — in their bank account or to be picked up in cash.
    4. For the next step, select a payment method. You should now be able to see a comprehensive quote.
    5. Click “Continue” to go to the next page and fill out both your own and the receiver’s details. You will also be asked to indicate the reason for the transfer and the source of the funds.
    6. Once you’ve confirmed the transaction, you’ll receive a unique MTCN (money transfer control number) to track the progress of your transfer. You can share this number with your receiver.
    What do I need to send money to Canada online?

    If you haven’t already, create a Western Union profile for free. Visit our registration page and enter the following details:

    • Your name and address.
    • Details of an official form of ID, such as a driver’s license or a French passport.

    Once you’re registered, you can start setting up your money transfer to Canada by entering the following details:

    • The reason for the transfer and the source of the funds.
    • Your receiver’s name, mailing address and email address.
    • If you’re making a transfer to a bank account, you will also need your receiver’s bank details, including their account number.
    How do I send money to Canada from a Western Union agent location?

    If you want to transfer money from a Western Union agent location, find one nearby. Why not use our online tool to find your nearest agent location? Once you’ve found an agent location, please do the following:

      1. Visit your chosen agent location with your ID, your bank details and your receiver’s bank details.
      2. Pay for your transfer using your chosen payment method. If you have started setting up the transfer online or via our app, you have 24 hours to make the payment in person by going to an agent location with your ID.
      3. Keep your unique MTCN (money transfer control number). You can find it on your receipt and share it with your receiver.
    How do I work out the transfer fees for sending money to Canada?

    How long does the transfer take to get to Canada?

    Transfer times may vary depending on the payment method, what time you made the transfer, public holidays and security checks. When you select your payment method, you’ll be able to see the estimated transfer time before committing to making the transfer. For example, a bank transfer from France to Canada can take up to six business days3. If you’re transferring money to be picked up in cash, it can arrive in a few minutes3.
