Identity verification

How long will it take for my identity to be verified?

We usually verify your documents instantly, but it can sometimes take up to 30 minutes. We can contact you if we need more information.

How can I verify my identity at an agent location?

To verify your identity at an agent location, please present one of the following government-issued IDs:

  • Your passport
  •  Your national ID (RUT)
  •  Any of the following bordering countries’ IDs (Mercosur ID):
    • Argentina
    • Peru
    • Columbia
    • Brazil
    • Ecuador
    • Paraguay
    • Uruguay

How can I verify my identity online?

To verify your identity, please do the following:

·        Log into our app.

·        Start a transfer.

·        Confirm your personal details.

In case we cannot confirm your identity with the information you provided, we will request you to upload your national ID (RUT).

Why do I need to verify my identity when sending money online? 

All financial institutions, including Western Union, are required to collect additional identity information to know their customers better. When we understand who is sending money to whom, we can help protect your money from being used for illegal activities.  

Note: You must be at least 18 years old to send or receive money with Western Union. 

We might ask you for additional details to verify your identity when sending money online.  

 

Do I need to verify my identity every time I send money?

If we’ve verified your identity once, you don’t have to submit your documents again. However, we might ask you to validate your email address, mobile number or other identity proof in some cases.

Please note that you’ll need to verify your identity again after your identity document expires.

What must I do if my identity document has expired?

When your identity document expires, we’ll notify you to update it or upload another valid document.

Consider that if you don’t, you won’t be able to make transfers with Western Union.

The following are the acceptable identity documents for Chile:

Online money transfers

  • Your national ID (RUT)

Agent location money transfers

  • Your passport
  • Your national ID (RUT)
  • Any of the following bordering countries’ IDs (Mercosur ID):
    • Argentina
    • Peru
    • Columbia
    • Brazil
    • Ecuador

I don’t have my documents handy. Can I upload them later?

Yes, you can upload your documents later. If you’ve started a transfer online, it will be saved automatically for only 10 hours. You can upload your documents any time within this period. If you don´t upload the documents within the 10-hour-allowed timeframe, the transfer will be automatically canceled.

To upload your documents, please follow these steps:

  1. Log into our mobile app.
  2. From the Menu, select History.
  3. Choose a transfer and select Continue.

Upload the documents.

 

 

What can I do if my ID has expired?

If your ID has expired, you’ll need to verify your identity again using the Western Union® app. After your identity verification, you will be able to send money online immediately.
