Message from the CEO
It was an eventful year. On the heels of the corporate spin-off, the new Western Union Foundation officially debuted in October 2006. The Foundation is the philanthropic extension of a company that is stronger than ever with 5,900 employees worldwide and more than 300,000 Agent locations in 200 countries and territories. An incredible global reach, coupled with our renewed vision of corporate citizenship as a most rewarding responsibility, poised Western Union Foundation as never before to promote understanding, hope and opportunity for people who journey toward a better life.
The Western Union Company is committed to doing business with absolute integrity, honesty and passion. We are extremely proud of our tradition of supporting our customers in realizing their dreams, and of leading by example in giving back to the communities where we do business around the world. We intend to further our commitment in ways that honor the struggle and sacrifice of so many in our global community and create innovative new opportunities for employees, Agents, vendors and consumers to make an even greater, longer-lasting impact.
As we approach the anniversary of our first year with new focus, the Western Union Company and the Foundation will partner to integrate social responsibility more fully into our identity - and demonstrate our commitment throughout our organization. Working together we will facilitate global economic empowerment by helping families stay connected, overcome barriers and realize their dreams. We will support education and cultural inclusion for migrants and their families and create economic pathways to opportunity for those striving to develop their businesses and be entrepreneurs. We also will commit ourselves to fostering hope in the developing world by creating a dialogue about issues that impact our consumers and our global community.
We believe that doing well and doing good are mutually dependent. To us, this is the true meaning of corporate citizenship. |
