Stablecard

What is Stablecard by Western Union?

Stablecard by Western Union is a Visa® spend card that lets you spend, withdraw cash, and shop online anywhere Visa cards are accepted. The card is secured by the cardholder’s deposit of US Dollar Payment Token (USDPTTM) as collateral.

USDPTTM stands for US Dollar Payment Token. It is a stablecoin, which is a digital version of the US dollar (USD) designed to maintain the same value as the US dollar. For every USDPTTM issued, an equal amount of USD is held in reserves such as bank deposits, U.S. Treasury bills, and other cash equivalents.

Yes, USDPTTM is a stablecoin, which is a type of cryptocurrency. Its purpose is to provide a fast, low-cost way to send and receive money worldwide, 24/7, combining the stability of US dollar with the efficiency of blockchain technology.

Is Stablecard by Western Union a prepaid card or a bank account?

No. Stablecard by Western Union is not a prepaid card or bank account. The card does not provide access to a deposit account, does not offer interest, and does not represent a claim against FDIC‑insured funds.
