Frequently Asked Questions

Identity verification

Why does Western Union need to verify my identity when sending money online?

Western Union, like all financial institutions, is required by law to verify its customers’ identities. This process helps us:

  • Understand who is sending and receiving money.
  • Ensure your transactions are secure.
  • Prevent your funds from being used for illegal activities.

Once you’ve registered online, you’ll need to verify your identity before sending your first money transfer. You can do this digitally using your Aadhaar card number and completing the video KYC process.

To prepare for your video KYC, please ensure the following:

  • Have your PAN card ready (ePAN and photocopies are not accepted).
  • Do not display your Aadhaar card during the call.
  • Have a black or blue pen and a blank sheet of paper available.
  • Be ready to confirm your income range and occupation details.
  • Be alone in a well-lit, quiet room with a stable internet connection.
  • Stay within the video frame and do not allow anyone else to appear or assist you during the call.
  • Ensure you are in India at the time of the video KYC call, as verification cannot be completed from outside India.

Note: You must be at least 18 years old to send or receive money with Western Union.
