WU Scholars applications now open

Go Global By Emily Larson March 4, 2019

Education gives people worldwide the potential to transform their lives. The Western Union Foundation aims to give women, including migrants and refugees, an opportunity at higher education through the WU Scholars program.  Students pursuing a post-secondary education in the areas of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, business and entrepreneurship programs can apply for a scholarship.

Progress is being made in advancing opportunities for women worldwide. Women’s increased access to education is one key indicator that gender parity is being reached in some countries. However, there is an imbalance in the quality of education women receive. That’s why the Foundation supports quality education and workforce training, connecting people to the global economy and equipping them with the tools needed to better their lives.

Students are selected as WU Scholars based on their accomplishments and personal goals related to the program’s three pillars: perseverance, aspiration, and community. Students receive USD $2,500 (or the local currency equivalent) as a contribution toward their tuition or school fees at the accredited post-secondary institution where they are enrolled.

Since first launching in 2017, the WU Scholars program has awarded 338 scholarships in 89 countries. Be inspired by the WU Scholars class of 2018 and how they are working toward achieving their dreams.

To apply, students must complete the application, available at www.WUScholars.org. Applications close April 30, 2019.
