Introducing WU Scholars Class of 2018

The Western Union Foundation is proud to introduce the WU Scholars class of 2018.

WU Scholars, the Western Union Foundation’s global scholarship program focuses on supporting students studying science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM), business and entrepreneurship, in their post-secondary education.

Meet three of the 164 WU Scholars selected for the 2018 scholarship program. They each have their own story to tell and inspiration driving them to gain an education and give back to their community.

Inspired by her mom’s battle with cancer, Oluchi is studying biochemical and mechanical engineering at Carleton University in Canada. She wants to design new prosthetics and invent nanobots that terminate cancer before it metastasizes. As a first-generation migrant, she is staying close to her Nigerian heritage by teaching youth in the community the culture through the art of dance.

Tinotenda, is pursuing a double major in biology and computer science at Dartmouth College in the United States. He has big dreams to become a physician scientist and help his home community by creating jobs and increasing education in Zimbabwe.

Thu is studying business at Maastricht University in the Netherlands. Her goal is to return to her home country, Vietnam, to help build and promote sustainable business models that focus on Vietnamese agriculture and cuisine.
