Giving By Emily Larson June 7, 2017
The Western Union Foundation is supporting the Red Cross and its efforts to provide emergency services to the affected communities in Sri Lanka where recent flooding and mudslides have displaced more than 600,000 people and killed at least 200 people. The Foundation will provide USD$20,000 to the response efforts so the Red Cross can provide the following services:
  • Immediate shelter and household items to more than 800 families
  • Mobilize volunteers to conduct First Aid services at 30+ medical camps
  • Distribute clean water and promote proper hygiene safety
  • Help small businesses recover through cash transfers and business planning services
In addition, the Western Union Company will provide no-fee* money transfers from select Agent locations in the United States to the American Red Cross disaster relief efforts.  Consumers should use promote code: DONATION to activate the $0 Fee offer. Our hearts go out to those affected and their families.  The Western Union Foundation is here to help those communities devastated by natural disasters.  Through our partnership with the American Red Cross and its sister societies around the world, the WU Foundation is supporting relief efforts that help people and communities recover and rebuild, as well as preparedness for future emergencies. *Western Union makes money on the exchange of currencies.
