Around the world, Western Union employees and NGOs have helped us stand #withrefugees – to empower them through education and job training. This month, in recognition of Immigrant Heritage Month and World Refugee Day, we are on a mission to give refugees a voice – to share with the world that these global citizens are so much more than their current circumstances.
To do this, the Western Union Foundation has launched the #IAmMore Challenge, a new social media-based awareness campaign to demonstrate that refugees have rich, meaningful lives – they are doctors, teachers, artists, farmers and so much more. Based on a common characteristic – a career or personal trait -- participants in the #IAmMore Challenge can match their profiles with a refugee being helped by one of our NGO partners and then share his or her story on Facebook.
Meet Lynn, one of our #IAmMore participants from Damascus, Syria. She’s now an architect living in Vienna, Austria. Her passion is to create a better place of living for all people by combining her old and new life with architecture to show the beauty of different cultures.
You can share Lynn’s story – or one from dozens of other participating refugees – by visiting www.westernunion.com/iammore, swapping out your Facebook profile and challenging your friends to do the same. Through September 1, 2017, for every Facebook profile photo that’s swapped with one of the refugees or displaced persons highlighted in the #IAmMore Challenge, the Western Union Foundation will donate USD$1 to programs that support them – up to USD $50,000 total.
The Western Union Foundation is a separate charitable corporation that is tax-exempt under §501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, contributions to which are tax-deductible for US income tax purposes. The Foundation is supported by the Western Union Company, its employees, Agents, and business partners, working to support education and disaster relief efforts as pathways toward a better future.
