In March, the Western Union Foundation launched a new global scholarship program, WU Scholars, to help aspiring students around the world to pursue a post-secondary education in the areas of science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM), business and entrepreneurship leading to better employment opportunities. I’m inspired by the tremendous response the program has received from aspiring applicants and Western Union Agents who have stepped up to support students in their local communities.
Here’s a snapshot of 2017 WU Scholar applicants:
With WU Foundation matching funds, Western Union Agents from around the world have helped raise a total of USD $225,000.00 for the program. Contributions from the 23 Agents, representing 26 countries will support aspiring applicants in their local community.
“What a tremendous feeling when two partners recognize shared values,” said Noel Greenland of GraceKennedy Financial Services.
In July, 174 students will be awarded a USD $2,500.00 scholarship from the WU Scholars program, each one for USD $2,500 (or local current equivalent). Check back to learn more about the Class of 2017 winners and how to apply next year.
