Earlier this month, Western Union’s Legal Team was named the Most Innovative Inhouse Legal Department at the Legal Tech innovation Awards in Vienna, beating Boehringer and Borealis to claim the top prize.

Women in Law and the Association of In-house Counsel jointly organize the ‘Promoting The Best’ award on an annual basis, supported by the Austrian Ministry of Justice, to celebrate the most innovative law firms, legal departments and legal tech products. The award ceremony took place on October 13, attended by approximately 100 leading lawyers in Austria (under strict COVID-19 guidelines), with Andrea Schwartz representing Western Union at the ceremony and picking the award.

Western Union’s Legal Department was recognized in this category due to its implementation of a number of digital tools over the course of the past 12 months aimed at fueling innovation and driving efficiencies. The jury specifically called out the Key Performance Indicators focused on Innovation and Automation of Processes that are part of Chief Legal Officer, Caroline Tsai’s, placemat. These KPIs measure the performance of every member of the global Legal Team as it relates to both the team’s adoption of digital tools (such as iManage, e-signature), and the implementation of automated processes (such as automated recruitment and employment contract creation).

Congratulations to our Legal & Enterprise Risk organization on receiving this honor!
