2020 National Philanthropy Day in Colorado Honorees Announced

National Philanthropy Day in Colorado is a celebration of philanthropy – giving, volunteering and charitable engagement. The day highlights the contributions that philanthropy, and people involved in giving and volunteering, make to our society and our world. The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Colorado Chapter is the host of National Philanthropy Day in Colorado.

Western Union Foundation is honored to be among 33 individuals, organizations, and businesses being recognized at the 2020 Virtual National Philanthropy Day in Colorado on November 13th. Each of the honorees is a change-maker uniquely contributing to communities across Colorado.

In 2017, the Western Union Foundation committed $1M to organizations in our hometown and headquarters state of Colorado. Since this commitment, the Foundation has given approximately $1.4M to various organizations in the community, including nearly $150K dedicated to COVID-19 relief. As part of our commitment to the community, the Foundation engages the more than 2,000 Western Union employees that live in the state, through giving, volunteering, and advocating for our beneficiaries.

Since 2017, the Foundation’s giving in Colorado has served more than 6,000 people with life-changing skills, education, and training to help them succeed in their goals and have a chance at a better future. When COVID-19 began affecting the community, the Foundation acted quickly to shift giving to programs and organizations that needed it most. The new funding in response to COVID-19 supported basic needs, such as food resources, as well as new needs, such as technology resources, so nonprofit programming could continue.

The Foundation grant to Mi Casa Resource Center, an organization that provides education and skills to low-income individuals in the Denver Metro and surrounding areas, helped them implement programming needed to adapt to COVID. Denver Public Schools Foundation used funding to support students and staff in various ways, from providing laptops and hotspots for students to training for staff on virtual supervision and internship management.

National Philanthropy Day Colorado believes that everyone can be part of philanthropy. Register here to celebrate the individuals, organizations and businesses making a difference in Colorado at the 2020 Virtual National Philanthropy Day.
