Providing employees a variety of commuting options is important to Western Union. Discounted EcoPasses for light rail, shuttles between buildings, and plenty of bike racks are some of the reasons #WUHQ has received a “Way to Go” Champion Award from the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG).
“Work-life balance is very important at Western Union, so we are thrilled our Denver headquarters is receiving this award! By offering commuting options to our employees, we aim to reduce their time on the road, increase productivity, and help support the environment,” says Soledad Villarruel Larre, Director of Human Resources, North America, Western Union.
Just as it’s important as the employee benefits, Denver is Western Union’s hometown, and our local staff care about being part of the community. As many live and work in this great city it’s our shared responsibility, however great or small, to help make it a better place for everyone.
Steve Erickson, Director of Communications & Marketing, DRCOG notes, “it’s important to celebrate the people and organizations that make Denver such a great place to live. Western Union, through its support of employee commuting options, demonstrates commitment to the health and well-being of its staff, as well as to the region as a whole.”
Evan Gatseos (pictured right, with Soledad), TDM Marketing and Outreach Manager for Denver South Economic Development Partnership, nominated Western Union for this award because “WU demonstrated an interest in reducing their carbon footprint through their employees’ daily commute. The company’s recent re-location to One Belleview Station in the Denver Tech Center was the perfect opportunity to take this step. We partnered with Western Union during their transition on several key tactics including:
- Conducting an employee commuting survey to help derive the right offerings, receiving an 81% response rate;
- Issuing RTD EcoPasses to nearly 600 pilot users to track and test usage (initial expected requests were ~260);
- Holding transportation fairs for its Denver employees throughout the phased move; and
- Participating in the month-long “Go-Tober Challenge.”
The Western Union purpose is moving money for better. We empower our employees to “move” in ways that work best for them and our customers. Are you considering a better “way to go?” Think Western Union and explore career opportunities today!
