Keys don’t just open doors, they can now unlock easier transfers to Colombia too with one simple detail, your receiver’s key. A ‘key’ is a digital ID that Colombian banks and digital wallets use to identify an account. Your receiver’s key can be their ID number, phone number, email address, or a unique code.
If your receiver has registered for a key, they can share it with you to send money directly to their bank account or digital wallet on the Western Union website or on our app.
It’s a convenient new way to give your receiver the flexibility to choose how they want to get the money.
Here’s what a key is, why it matters, and how to use it.
What is a receiver’s key?
In Colombia, people can register and generate a digital ID called a key. This key is directly linked to their bank account or digital wallet. So, when you send money to Colombia, all you need is your receiver’s key. You don’t have to enter bank account details.
A receiver’s key can be one of the following:
- Identification number
- Mobile number
- Email address
- Unique code (assigned by their bank or digital wallet)
Why use a key to send money?
Using a key keeps things simple. Instead of confirming bank account details, you can send money using information your receiver already knows. Choose their preferred delivery method (bank account or digital wallet), enter their key and send with confidence.
How to send money online using your receiver’s key?
Getting started is easy:
- Go to westernunion.com or to our app and select Send money.
