Innovation in action: Online ID verification for WU@SBB app users in Switzerland

The Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) is the backbone of the Swiss public transport system. In the last pre-pandemic year, 2019, they carried 1.32m passengers per day – an impressive achievement in a country of 8 million.

SBB expands its product offering and the services it offers its customers, aiming to enhance customer experience at the same time. In this context, they are working together with Western Union to offer users of their app the opportunity to connect to their families and loved ones across the world, by starting their money transfers at the WU@SBB app and paying at any SBB ticket machine or even directly on the app.

At Western Union, we always work with our partners to help them improve customer experience, through the use of innovative new technologies. To help make the process of money transfers even smoother for WU@SBB app users, we recently implemented the option of online ID verification, offering app users additional convenience. This means that WU@SBB app users can now go online and verify their identity to set up their account easily, with their PostFinance card, just in a few clicks – making the whole process even faster and more convenient.
