Did you know you can start your money transfer conveniently from your home in the US with our Western Union app and then pay cash in store at your nearest Western Union agent location? Starting your transaction online has great benefits. For instance, you can start your transaction in your own time and “lock” or “freeze” the exchange rate available at that moment for the next 12 hours, allowing you to pay in-store with the same exchange rate you locked from the day before. Plus, you will save time at the counter as you won’t need to fill any forms and your loved ones will receive their cash transfer within minutes*.
If you have never used this service before, don’t worry we’ve got you covered. We’re here to walk you through the steps so you can easily start your money transfer online and then pay cash in store.
STEP 1: Download our Western Union application and create a free profile.
Download the Western Union app from Google Play (for Android) or the App Store (for iOS).
STEP 2: Start your money transfer in the app and select “Pay in-store”.
Enter the amount of money you want to send. Then choose the most convenient payout option for your receiver. They can either pick up their money in cash or they can receive it directly in their bank accounts (if available for your receiver’s country). Then, select the option “Pay in store.”
STEP 3: Lock in your exchange rate and transfer fee.
Lock the exchange rate and transfer fee so they can stay the same for the next 12 hours. A tracking number (MTCN) will be generated, which will be valid for 12 hours to enable you to go and pay in cash at your nearest Western Union agent location with the exchange rate and transfer fee you locked.
STEP 4: Find your nearest participating agent location.
Complete your money transfer from any of our participating Western Union agent locations in the US. Type in your zip code and select “pay for money transfer” under “start online, finish in-store” within the filters on the app.
You will need to provide:
- Your receiver’s full name exactly the way it appears on your receiver’s government issued ID.
- Your government issued ID.
- Your mobile phone number.
What happens next?
You can track your transfer at any time from the app. When your money transfer has been completed, and the money has been picked up by the receiver, you will get an SMS confirmation.
