The Western Union Foundation is supporting efforts to provide emergency services and disaster relief to the people of Mexico City and its surrounding areas following this week’s earthquake. According to officials, the death toll keeps rising and multiple buildings – including schools – were destroyed.

The Foundation is donating USD $30,000 to Save the Children, one of our disaster relief partners, which is setting up psychosocial support and “friendly spaces” for children in schools and shelters. The donation consists of a USD $10,000 contribution from the Foundation, plus a USD $10,000 contribution from El Alamo, a Western Union Agent, and a USD $10,000 match from the Foundation on El Alamo’s contribution. We are also matching employee contributions toward relief efforts 2:1 up to $25,000 USD.

Our thoughts are with everyone who has lost a loved one or has been displaced by this disaster. Thankfully, our employees are safe but many have lost their homes. We will continue to engage with our NGO partners to support relief efforts around the world that help people and communities recover and rebuild, as well as increase their preparedness for future emergencies.
