Western Union Statement on Anti-Asian Violence

Americas By Hikmet Ersek, Western Union CEO Mar 19, 2021

Western Union shares the grief and outrage we all feel over the recent spate of violent incidents directed at Asians, Pacific Islanders, and Americans of Asian and Pacific Island descent in the United States.

Our hearts go out to the victims of these incidents and their families and loved ones.

The Asian and Pacific Islander communities are no strangers to racism and discrimination throughout America’s history and are often overlooked in our discussions about building a more inclusive, equitable society.

Our company has always served people throughout the globe, across political, ethnic, and cultural lines. To that end, we support the unequivocal right of every individual to dignity, respect, and safety.

We will never waver from our commitment to do what we can to help build a more inclusive, equitable world.

Together with the Western Union Foundation, we actively engage with partners on programs focused on serving vulnerable and underserved populations to combat xenophobia. We recognize that there is more work to be done to support minority communities, both as a company and, indeed, as members of society.

Western Union stands with our Asian and Pacific Islander employees, customers, agents, and partners and joins the broader community, in the U.S. and across the world, in condemning this violence in the strongest possible terms.
