We have all been touched by the images and stories of refugees who have been displaced from their homes across the globe. At Western Union, we are on a mission to help and believe that access to quality education will be a critical cornerstone to the long-term resolution of this global crisis.
That’s why Western Union has expanded redemption offers for the My WU® rewards program, to empower its members to redeem1 points towards a donation in support of educational causes important to them. Causes including the Whitaker Peace & Development Initiative (WPDI) that provides life-skills and conflict-resolution education for refugees.
WPDI’s approach to training refugees focuses on peace education, life skills, vocational training, and entrepreneurship. Last year, Western Union and the Western Union Foundation announced a three-year collaboration with WPDI that will help provide access to education for 10,000 refugees in Kiryandongo, Uganda.
The My WU program is free to join2 and members earn points on their qualifying transactions. We are proud that within the first few months, more than 5,000 of our members have chosen to redeem1 their points to a cause, over half choosing to support refugees.
