Customers invited to make donations at Foodland to “Red Cross Disaster Relief” as part of Give Aloha Program
To support communities and families affected by disasters such as Hurricane Lane in Hawaii, Foodland Super Market and the Western Union Foundation have announced that a total of up to US $40,000 will be donated to support relief efforts of the American Red Cross of Hawaii. The Western Union Foundation has committed US $10,000 to this effort.
In addition, Foodland and the Western Union Foundation will jointly contribute an additional US $30,000 to the American Red Cross of Hawaii to help match customer donations up to US $15,000 given at checkout when customers select “Red Cross Disaster Relief” as part of Foodland’s Annual Community Matching Gifts Program, Give Aloha.
As part of Foodland’s Give Aloha, each year during the month of September, customers are encouraged to make a donation at Foodland to their favorite participating Hawaii non-profit organization. In 2018, Foodland and the Western Union Foundation each are contributing US $50,000 for a total of US $100,000. Additionally, Foodland will make another donation of US $200,000. Since the program began in 1999, more than US $29.2 million has been raised for Hawaii’s charities, with over US $1 million coming from the Western Union Foundation.
“At Foodland, we are always so impressed and touched by how readily our community pulls together to help those in need, and we are proud to work with the Western Union Foundation to support such efforts,” said Jenai S. Wall, Chairman and CEO of Foodland.
“Given the impact of the recent hurricane on our customers, employees, family and friends, we are especially pleased that thanks to the generosity of the Western Union Foundation, customers may donate not only to their favorite non-profit through Give Aloha, but also for Red Cross Disaster Relief,” continued Wall.
“We are proud to work with Foodland, supporting non-profits that are focused on strengthening the local community,” said Western Union Foundation Vice President and Executive Director, Elizabeth Roscoe. “Through the Give Aloha program, together we have been able to support organizations that Foodland customers are the most passionate about. This year, our collaborative response will also support American Red Cross’ aid in response to recent disasters in Hawaii, providing shelter, food and health services.”
