Privacy Statement


Effective Date: January 17, 2007

This Privacy Statement describes how we collect and use your non-public personal information ("Information"). It applies only to consumers with a United States mailing address.



INFORMATION WE COLLECT

Western Union collects Information about you from a variety of sources including those listed below. You consent to Western Union’s collection, transfer and storage of Information by computers or other transfer or storage devices in the United States and elsewhere when you supply Information.


We collect Information you supply when: (a) you ask us or one of our affiliates to send or receive money or to provide other goods or services; (b) you submit Information on applications or other forms to us or our affiliates; or (c) you otherwise submit Information to us, our affiliates or others ;

We collect Information about your transactions with us, our affiliates or others;

We may collect Information about you from a variety of third party sources such as our business clients, government agencies and consumer reporting agencies and other suppliers of information; and

We collect Information about your online activity as described in the paragraph below titled "INTERNET TECHNOLOGY" together with Information about the domain and host you use to access the Internet; your computer’s Internet address; the browser and operating system software you use; the date and time you access our Web site and the Internet address used to link to our Web site when you visit us.



INTERNET TECHNOLOGY

We use Internet technologies like cookies and Web beacons to collect Information and for other purposes, including, but not limited to, those identified below:


To assist us in providing services to you;

To allow you to change Web pages during your visit without having to re-enter your password;

To store your preferences and other information and to track activity on our Web site;

To better understand the effectiveness of our promotional campaigns;

To determine whether you came to our site from a banner ad or an affiliate Web site;

To deliver Information specific to your interests on additional Web sites; and

To determine whether you've acted on our promotional messages.

A "cookie" is a text file placed on your computer's hard drive by a Web page server. Cookies contain data that can be read by the Web site that issued the cookie. "Web beacons" are transparent electronic images placed in the Web code, also called "clear GIFs" or "Web bugs" that collect non-personal data while visiting a Web site. Your Web browser usually has documentation on how to disable cookies and Web beacons. This will limit the performance of Western Union's Web site.



INFORMATION WE DISCLOSE

Subject (in certain cases) to your opt-out selections (or opt-in selection with respect to Vermont and California consumers, as described below) or as otherwise permitted by law, we may disclose the Information we collect in the paragraphs titled, "INFORMATION WE COLLECT" and "INTERNET TECHNOLOGY" to our affiliates and to unaffiliated third parties as described below.


We may disclose Information about current and former consumers and customers to the following types of third parties:

1. Financial service providers such as Western Union Agents that offer our services;
2. Banks, credit card companies, brokerage houses, mortgage lenders and mortgage originators;
3. Non-financial companies such as retailers, direct marketers and other providers of goods and services;
4. Government agencies; and
5. As permitted or required by law.


We may also disclose Information to companies that perform marketing services for us or other financial institutions with whom we have joint marketing arrangements.



CONFIDENTIALITY AND SECURITY

We endeavor to maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards to guard your Information. We also endeavor to restrict Information access to our employees, agents and representatives that need to know it. Despite our efforts, and as you probably know, third parties may unlawfully intercept or access your transmissions to us or may wrongly instruct you to disclose Information to them while posing as Western Union.


OPT OUT RIGHT (NON-VERMONT OR CALIFORNIA CONSUMERS)

If you prefer that we not disclose certain of your Information to nonaffiliated third parties, you may opt out of those disclosures. If you wish to opt out of disclosures of Information to nonaffiliated third parties, you may: (1) check the opt out box and submit it to us during the registration process (online registrations only); (2) check the opt out box and submit it to us through the "Edit your privacy information" link on our Web site (accessible through the "Personal Information" link under the "Your Account" menu on our Web site); (3) call the customer service number listed below to instruct us not to share your Information; or (4) contact us by mail at the address listed below. Some third party (nonaffiliate) disclosures are not subject to an opt-out choice. These include, among others, disclosures necessary to effect, administer or enforce a transaction you request; disclosures to our authorized service providers (including Western Union Agents); disclosures permitted or required by law or disclosures to prevent fraud or other illegal activities. Western Union maintains your opt-out choices and transaction history for a fixed time period. If you do not perform another transaction during the fixed time period, your Information, as well as your opt-out choice will be removed.


VERMONT AND CALIFORNIA CONSUMERS

Western Union will only disclose Information about consumers with a Vermont or California mailing address to unaffiliated third parties with your written authorization, unless otherwise permitted by applicable law. Vermont and California disclosures that are permitted by law without written authorization include, among others, disclosures necessary to effect, administer or enforce a transaction you request; disclosures to our authorized service providers (including Western Union Agents); disclosures permitted or required by law or disclosures to prevent fraud or other illegal activities. Written authorizations from Vermont consumers may be delivered to us at P.O. Box 66970, St. Louis, MO 63166-9882 or by email at privacy@westernunion.com. Vermont authorizations must contain your name, address and signature and your authorization to disclose your Information to nonaffiliated third parties. You may revoke your consent at any time by calling us at 1-800-562-2598, or by writing or emailing us at the addresses provided in this paragraph. California consumers should contact us at the addresses provided in this paragraph for instructions on how to deliver their authorizations.


TEXAS CONSUMERS

Complaints concerning sale of checks activities should be directed to: Texas Department of Banking, 2601 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas 78705 or 1-877-276-5554 (toll free) or www.banking.state.tx.us.


CHILDREN’S PRIVACY

Our Web site is not directed at children under the age of 13. Western Union does not knowingly collect or maintain Information at our Web site from those we actually know are under the age of 13.


EXTERNAL WEB SITES

Our Web site may be linked to or from third party Web sites. Western Union is not responsible for the content or privacy practices of Web sites that are linked to or from our Web site.


INTERNET ONLY PROVISIONS

Some of this Privacy Statement applies only when you visit us at www.westernunion.com or other Western Union branded Web sites. This includes the paragraphs titled, "INTERNET TECHNOLOGY," "CHILDREN'S PRIVACY," and "EXTERNAL WEB SITES" and those parts of the other paragraphs in this Privacy Statement that contain information about the Internet or Web sites. Everything else applies whether you visit us at an Agent location, on the Internet or on the telephone.


CHANGES

Western Union reserves the right to modify this Privacy Statement. You can get updated Privacy Statements by calling us at the telephone number listed below or by visiting our Web site at www.westernunion.com. We urge you to get updates of this Privacy Statement frequently to obtain the current version. You may change your choices at any time.
