To find a Money Order Agent location near you, consult your telephone directory, either in the white pages under Western Union or in the yellow pages.

3. Where can I cash a money order?

Money orders are intended for use in the United States and may be deposited into bank accounts. They may also be cashed at check-cashers, banks and retailers, subject to the policies of the cashing location.

4. Do Western Union Agent locations cash money orders?

In the US, some will, subject to the policies of the cashing location. However, Western Union Agent locations are under no obligation to cash a Western Union Money Order payment instrument. Western Union Money Order Agent locations are authorized sellers of Western Union Money Orders payment instruments, but they are independent businesses that establish their own policies regarding the types of payment instruments they will cash.

5. Do money orders have an expiration date?

The Western Union Money Order payment instrument does not have an expiration date. However, if it is not used or cashed (presented for payment) within three years of the purchase date, there will be a non-refundable service charge deducted from the principal amount of the money order where permitted by law. Additional fees apply for money order refund, tracing and other services.

7. I lost my money order receipt. How can I get a refund or request a photocopy of the money order I purchased?

If you have no proof of purchase, but know the serial number and the dollar amount of the money order, you'll need to obtain a money order Tracing/Refund Request form from the location where you purchased the money order. You will also need to contact Western Union at 1-800-999-9660 to have the Customer Service Representative send you an affidavit form. Follow the instructions on both forms. Complete and sign the Tracing/Refund Request form. Complete, sign and have the affidavit notarized. Mail both forms to the address listed on the Tracing/Refund Request form for processing.

You will also need to include a non-refundable processing fee. If the money order has not been cashed at the time your request is received, you will generally be issued a refund within 30 days of completion of our investigation. Western Union may, however, require a bond or other form of acceptable security before issuing a refund.

If you do not know the serial number or the dollar amount and are unable to provide proof of purchase, your request for a refund may be denied.
