Pakistan - SOS Children’s Villages
Orphaned and abandoned children are among the most impacted individuals of war-torn countries and those faced with economic hardship. Certainly, the situation in Pakistan was tenuous in 2006. But one novel organization is responding to the needs of the country’s smallest citizens by offering children left homeless and parentless permanent dwelling as well as the right to an education. SOS Children’s Villages of Pakistan was founded in 1975 and currently helps some 1,400 children.
The organization fosters a more long-term strategy that seeks to integrate children into society to better prepare them for independent living. Every attempt is made to normalize the experience and help children reach their full potential regardless of lack of family connections.
Western Union Agent, Kuwait Bahrain International Exchange, championed the good work of SOS Children’s Villages of Pakistan. The $20,000 joint donation from Kuwait Bahrain International Exchange and the Foundation ensured completion of the SOS Hermann Gmeiner School in Multan, which will allow some 800 high school students, both those living at SOS and others from low-income families, to attend school.
