Kuwait – LoYAC
Positive social action is often borne from tragedy. Although halfway around the world from New York City, one Kuwaiti woman was so horrified by the events on September 11, 2001, that she created a youth action network to oppose terrorist sentiments and extremist ideas. Today, LoYAC, as it is known, works with roughly 1,200 young people, ages 13-24, to foster their social, civic and professional development. Of special interest is the organization’s summer program which facilitates internships in the non-profit sector and at local businesses, including Western Union Agent, Al Muzaini Exchange Kuwait, which awarded six internships in 2006.
LoYAC’s mission reads, “We strive to provide the youth with unique opportunities to develop their personal growth, explore their talents and potential, build and enhance their professional and interpersonal skills, and find their sense of purpose in an attempt to help them evolve into highly effective young leaders.”
Western Union Agent, Al Muzaini Exchange Kuwait, generously supported LoYac in 2006. The Foundation’s matching gift program doubled the donation to $25,000, which went a long way toward investing in Kuwaiti youth.
“We were proud to have supported this innovative program for young people in Kuwait,” said Marc Aubry, marketing director, Middle East, Pakistan & Afghanistan, Western Union Financial Services. “Taking an interest in Kuwaiti youth today builds confidence in a more successful tomorrow.”
