Argentina – PUPI
A home not only provides a roof over one’s head, but a place for families to be nurtured. Renowned Argentinean soccer star, Javier Zanetti and his wife Paula, are leading efforts through Fundacion Pupi to provide permanent and improved shelter for Argentina’s poorest families. The house building project fits within Fundacion Pupi’s overall mission of meeting the basic needs of at-risk children ages three and older. By providing either new or restored homes for those working families, each of whom must contribute to the cost of building materials and participate in the actual construction, the Zanettis are doing so much more than just offering concrete housing. They are nurturing the self-esteem of families, which has an indelible impact on promoting healthier lives.
A $20,000 grant from The Western Union Foundation makes it possible for four needy families to inhabit new and/or improved residences. The satisfaction and pride these families experience brings many benefits, chiefly among them creating a more positive environment for their children.
